Windsor Castle, founded by William the Conqueror, is a working royal palace and one of the official residences of the monarch. Visitors see the State Apartments, hung with masterpieces from the Royal Collection, and St George’s Chapel, where many monarchs are buried; the chapel is generally closed to sightseers on Sundays for services. The castle is usually open from Thursday to Monday and can close at short notice; check dates, times and tickets on rct.uk.
