The WWT London Wetland Centre opened in 2000 on the site of four disused Victorian reservoirs in a loop of the Thames at Barnes. Run by the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust, it covers more than 100 acres of lakes, reedbeds and meadows, part of which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Paths lead to bird hides and an observatory, and there is a café. Barnes station is about fifteen minutes’ walk, or take the bus from Hammersmith.
