The Thames Path in London

National Trail·River Thames

A riverside trail through the city

About The Thames Path in London

The Thames Path National Trail, opened in 1996, follows the river for about 185 miles from its source in Gloucestershire to south-east London. In London it runs along both banks through the centre, so walkers can choose the busy South Bank, the quieter Chelsea and Battersea reaches, or the green stretches past Hammersmith, Chiswick and Richmond. Signposts carry the National Trail acorn. Riverside piers and stations make it easy to walk a section and return by boat or train.

Why it's on our list
