Highgate Cemetery opened in 1839 as one of London’s “Magnificent Seven” Victorian cemeteries. The West Cemetery, with its Egyptian Avenue and Circle of Lebanon catacombs, is seen on guided tours, while the East Cemetery, with the tomb of Karl Marx and many writers and artists, can be explored on your own. It is still a working cemetery, so be respectful; book tickets online. Archway is the nearest station.
