Private-hire vehicles in London, from minicabs and ride-hailing apps to executive chauffeur firms such as Addison Lee, must be licensed by TfL and booked in advance; they cannot pick up passengers who hail them in the street. They are a practical choice for airport transfers with luggage. Black cabs, by contrast, can be hailed. Always check that a private-hire vehicle and driver are licensed by TfL.
