Transport for London runs the Underground, buses, the Elizabeth line, the DLR, the Overground and trams. The easiest way to pay is to tap a contactless bank card or phone on the yellow readers when you start and finish each Tube or rail journey (on buses, tap once when you board). Fares are capped daily and weekly, so you never pay more than a set amount. Use the same card or device all day, and note that buses do not accept cash. Visitor Oyster cards are an alternative.
Why it's on our list
- Contactless or Oyster
