The Regent’s Canal, opened in the 1820s, curves through north London. From Little Venice, where narrowboats moor in a pool by Warwick Avenue, the towpath leaves the water at the Maida Hill tunnel, where you follow the street signs over the top, then runs along the edge of Regent’s Park, past the aviary of London Zoo and the grand villas, to Camden Lock and its markets. Allow about an hour and a half on foot, or take the London Waterbus boat for part of the way.
