Richmond Bridge, an elegant stone bridge of the 1770s, is the oldest surviving bridge over the Thames in London. Around it, the riverside has terraces of cafés and pubs, sloping lawns and boats for hire, and river cruises leave from the landing stage for Kingston and Hampton Court in season. Walk south along the towpath past the meadows to Petersham and Ham House, or climb Richmond Hill for the view. Richmond station is about ten minutes’ walk.
