The Courtauld Gallery, in the Strand wing of Somerset House, holds a small but superb collection that runs from medieval paintings to the 20th century. It is best known for its Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works, among them Manet’s A Bar at the Folies-Bergère and Van Gogh’s Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear. Book a timed ticket online. Temple and Covent Garden stations are a short walk away.
