There has been an inn on this spot on Bankside for centuries, and the present Anchor dates mostly from the 18th and 19th centuries. Its riverside terrace looks across the Thames to the City and is packed on summer evenings. It is a short walk from Shakespeare’s Globe and Borough Market. London Bridge station is about ten minutes’ walk away, along the riverside past Southwark Cathedral.
