Richmond Park was enclosed by Charles I in the 1630s as a deer park, and herds of red and fallow deer still roam across its grassland and among its ancient oaks. It is a National Nature Reserve. The Isabella Plantation is a woodland garden famous for its azaleas in spring, and the Tamsin Trail circles the park for walkers and cyclists. Keep at least 50 metres from the deer, especially in the rutting and birthing seasons, and check royalparks.org.uk for gate times.
