Fortnum & Mason was founded in 1707 by William Fortnum, a footman in Queen Anne’s household, and Hugh Mason. Its eau-de-nil store on Piccadilly is a temple to fine food, with teas, biscuits, preserves, chocolates and its famous hampers, as well as homeware and fragrance. On the hour, the figures of Mr Fortnum and Mr Mason appear on the clock above the entrance.
