Beneath the government buildings of King Charles Street, the Cabinet War Rooms sheltered Churchill, his ministers and staff during the Second World War. When the war ended the lights were switched off and the rooms left as they were, with maps on the walls. Today, run by Imperial War Museums, they are combined with a museum of Churchill’s life. Book a timed ticket ahead.
